GLOBAL SHAPERS ISTANBUL HUB’S EVENT BROUGHT TOGETHER KEY STAKEHOLDERS IN TURKEY TO DISCUSS SOCIAL ASPECTS OF 4TH INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION
Global Shapers Istanbul Hub’s event “Fourth Industrial Revolution in Turkey” on May 2nd, 2017 gathered all stakeholders including business leaders, policy makers, academicians and civil society leaders together to discuss the ongoing rapid technological transformations on societal, economic, political and educational levels. With this private event, Istanbul Hub aimed to disrupt the current rigid debates happening on the topic of Industry 4.0, mainly handled by and for industrial societies, and include all relevant parties to create a collaborative agenda for the sustainable development of Turkey.
Cansen Başaran-Symes, Chairwoman of Allianz Turkey, delivered a keynote speech as Advisory Board Member of Istanbul Hub.
The panelist capacity consisted mainly of top level representatives and opinion leaders from various companies such as Siemens, Vodafone, McKinsey, Microsoft, Bosch, NGOs such as Women Entrepreneurs Association of Turkey (KAGIDER), Technology Development Foundation of Turkey (TTGV), prestigious universities, ministerial departments of education as well as some members of Young Global Leaders Community (Bengi Korkmaz, Ümit Kumcuoğlu). The first session titled Turkey’s Outlook on the way of embracing the 4th Industrial Revolution has been moderated by Ahu Özyurt, CNN Türk Anchor and panelists envisioned the roadmap for Turkey’s economic growth, future employment and the new dynamics of consumption, products and values within the digitalized industry conditions. The following session was moderated by Afşin Yurdakul, WEF Media Council Member and Global Shaper, titled Paradigm Shift in Education and University-Industry Partnership. One of the key outputs from this session was that there are two major needs for Turkey ahead of the 4th Industrial Revolution: thinking out of the box and increasing the funds of cutting-edge scientific researches. In the last session, “Preparing for the Technological Transformation on Societal and Individual Levels”, panelists shared their insight on gender inequality predictions within the context of upcoming new technologies, new skills and the need for re-qualifications of current workforce.
In conclusion remarks, Global Shapers Istanbul Hub Curator Onur Türk expressed Istanbul Hub’s commitment on promoting the 4th Industrial Revolution and creating a do-tank to shape the socio-economical future of Turkey.
