The Global Shapers Community is a network of Hubs developed and led by young people who are exceptional in their potential, their achievements and their drive to make a contribution to their communities.
Hugo is a Panamanian lawyer, dedicated and passionate about education, youth engagement, sustainable development and citizen participation. He is the founder and first president of Jovenes Unidos por el Dialogo (United Youth for Dialogue) (JUD), an NGO that promotes debates (MUN, OAS, Classic debate models), organizes forums and conferences for the development of public speaking and argument techniques. He is currently coordinating a project called National Debate Students Council, which main objective is the creation of debate teams in public schools. He served as member of the Board of Directors of the AIESEC USMA chamber in Panama, acting as Vice-President of Talent Management and was the President of the Graduate Lawyers org. at Tulane U.
He co-authored the book: “Los 14 mitos de la pobreza” (“The 14 myths of poverty”) 2011, targeted to high school students, introducing them to public policy reforms and has written several articles about, law, education, politics and citizen participation. ´
He received the National Award for Youth Leadership and Innovation and the National Leader of the year award by the Panama Council of University Principals.and has been selected as Panama representative to the One Young World Summit in South Africa and was recognized as an Outstanding Young Person by Junior Chamber International (JCI)
He currently serves as Executive Assistant and Chief Speech Writer to the Vice President and Foreign Minister of the Republic of Panama
