100 Waste Pickers

Most waste pickers are individuals who are living below the poverty line, they collect waste materials to make a living. hence through this program, we aim at empowering, supporting and educating waste pickers to end poverty in their lives.

Informal waste pickers in Johannesburg lack the skills they need to sufficiently advance themselves through the work they do, despite the fact that they contribute greatly to the recycling efforts of the city and save municipalities money.

Additionally, in waste management, there are only a few women. This is partly due to the the harrassment and discrimination that exist within the industry. Another goal of this project is to support the end of all forms of discrimination against all women and girls everywhere.

Goal

This project aims to provide support and mentorship to the pickers so that they can enhance their skills and grow in micro business (buyback centers). Through this program, we aim at empowering, supporting, educating waste pickers to end poverty in their lives.

Target

To mentor, train and empower 100 waste pickers from Johannesburg.
