Abuja Cycling Project

The Abuja Shapers Hub cycling program was designed to promote the use of a healthy and eco-friendly transportation system that could contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving public

The aim was to achieve the following objectives:

  1. Raise awareness of the health and environmental benefits of cycling.

  2. To spotlight the need for cycling infrastructure.

  3. To promote public enlightenment and action on sugar reduction.

The Hub's cycling rides promoted the sugar tax campaign and the benefits of decreasing the consumption of sugary drinks. The ride also highlighted the benefits of cycling for managing obesity and diabetes. An increase in commuting through the provision of infrastructure to support cycling can be a valuable way of localising the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) and decarbonizing the transport sectors.
