Problem Statement

People with physical disabilities who require a wheelchair for mobility have difficulties in carrying out basic daily activities, for example, turning on/off a lamp and require help from other people to do so. With this project we seek to promote greater independence for these people, directly impacting their quality of life, health and well-being.

Target Group

People with physical and motor disabilities, especially those with low income.

Proposed Solution

Use of simple home automation that will allow project beneficiaries to use all the facilities in their home through a mobile application.

Hub Activities

Find beneficiaries, obtain financing for the necessary equipment, install automation units and measure the impact.

We are utilizing existing technologies available in the market such as eWeLink - Smart Home, Novadigital, and Google Home to develop the mobile application. Additionally, we are in collaboration with a university to explore the development of our own application tailored specifically to assist people with physical and motor disabilities. For the installation of automation units, we have engaged volunteer electricians to carry out the installations. Our strategy is to develop an easy-to-implement automation system to facilitate scalability, enabling us to extend the project to more households.

Short and Long-term Goals/Results

We have already demonstrated that the project is viable for a first home. We want to replicate it in more homes and expand it, perhaps even to other audiences, for example, the elderly.

Our goal for this year is to automate 25 houses in Ribeirão Preto, impacting approximately 100 individuals with disabilities directly. The project is slated to conclude in December 2024.

Available Metrics

We are now running a Likert survey for the first automated house, gathering together some data about how well-being were improved and how much easier the daily tasks are now. We are trying to collect data about how many times the devices were used also.

Collaborators

We currently have no external collaborators, but we are prospecting companies to finance the expansion of the project. We would also like to form a partnership with players from the Brazilian Paralympic rugby team, who reside in Ribeirão Preto - SP, to connect with new potential beneficiaries.
