Adulting Series

The Adulting Series seeks to prepare individuals for life with basic useful financial liateracy skills. There are numerous life skills young adults are expected to have but which they have not necessarily been taught which include certain identified financial lietracy skills and financial knowledge. Often, these are learned through a process of trial and error. Competence or knowledge in these skills can be of central importance to the positive development of a young adult’s future, making informed decisions which can aid fianncial wellness and a lack of knowledge or poor decision making in these areas can lead to detrimental consequences for young adults and those that care for them. Given how costly and inefficient trial and error can be in the process of establishing oneself and in learning how to be a well-rounded—economically and civically active member of the community, there is a need for a space in which young adults can learn from one another and those with experience that demonstrates their practical understanding of the desired competences and increase their finaical knowledge. This will aid them to prepare for the future and take care of important financial needs.

The project seeks to equip young people as the first set of a target audience with relevant and practical knowledge around key theme areas identified which include investing, budgeting, individual taxes, among other topical discussions. These initiatives will be facilitated through hosting a series of discussions with experts in these areas to provide/transfer knowledge and answer questions.

The group of young people will be soon to be university graduates who will be entering employment.

Over time, the project will be replicated with other target audiences who can also gain from these discussions. Studies have shown that requisite knowledge, particularly financial knowledge, aids appropriate decisions making and financial inclusion.

The impact of covid and lockdown will be considered but the following target groups will be covered:

University students

Others- teachers, medical professionals, local NGO civil society groups

The aim is to provide training covering areas of financial knowlegde (budgeting, investing, saving, taxes, bonds, starting a business etc).
