Baking against poverty

The Vienna Hub has launched an online baking courses platform hosted by grandpas and grandmas all over the world!

Vollpension and Global Shapers Vienna Hub have already launched the baking academy platform in the German-speaking region last October, sold over 750 video courses and secured 45 jobs of our Viennese seniors during the pandemic. With the help of the world-wide Shapers community, we can contribute to reducing old-age poverty all around the world, too.

Goal: To kick off a cross-hub project!

Since 1 October, 2020 there were organized more than 100 courses with more than 450 participants. In several weekly courses, people interested in baking learn how to bake the secret recipes in grandma’s and grandpa’s baking book. With a call to action, the Hub wants to reach out to seniors around the world and provide them with the opportunity to earn some extra money with live baking courses. Sticky rice with mango by grandma Ming from Bangkok, Tiramisu by Nonna Maria from Italy, Quindim by grandma Lorena from Rio de Janeiro or cardamom rice pudding by grandma Amba from Mumbai are only three examples of courses which could perhaps be available in our baking academy in the future. This way, we create an attractive course programme for baking aficionados and the possibility to earn some extra money for seniors around the globe.
