Balochistan Flood Relief Efforts

The 2023 floods in Pakistan left a trail of devastation, affecting a staggering 33 million people. Among them, 20.6 million individuals found themselves in dire need of assistance further putting communities and children at-risk of high levels of malnutrition (42.6% stunted as per the National Nutrition Survey, 2018). The impact on education was also stark, with 34,204 schools either partially or completely destroyed, disrupting the educational futures of countless children. 

 

The project aimed at providing short-term immediate relief to flood victims in District Jaffarabad, through distribution of essential food items, temporary shelter, essential medicines, and hygience kits by leveraging our local knowledge of context and ground realities. 


Through efforts, the hub was able to strategize and implement relief efforts for 8+ villages in District Jaffarabad through team mobilization, creating a logistical tracker, and overlooking on-field implementation - while prioritizing infants and Pregnant and Lactating Women (PLW). The hub was able to:


  • Raise PKR 4.8 million

  • Provided shelter to 1,350+ individuals throught tents, mosquito nets and blankets

  • Provided food ration to 2,820+ individuals for immediate relief (sufficient for three weeks)

  • Provision of hygienic items to 350+ menstruating individuals 

  • 55+ packs of essential kits (soap, shampoo sachet, mospel, towel, panadol, & biscuits)

  • Distributed over 30+ boxes of donated shelter items including clothing, bedding and towels 

  • Delivered a session on the importance of menstrual hygiene during natural disasters to 80+ individuals
