The initiative has a focus on reducing waste and greenhouse gas emissions generated through local businesses and residents. Our mission is to help small companies and apartment complexes transition to more sustainable practices whilst directly contributing to local community waste and emission reduction targets, as well as supporting compliance with environmental law such as the composting mandate for businesses in California. Our approach consists of education and engagement as well as multi-stakeholder innovation around waste management, recycling, circular economy and climate change. We involve the public in monthly outdoor events and regular visits to waste treatment and recycling facilities. In addition, we facilitate the development and implementation of impactful solutions to increase local resilience, circularity and sustainability. We consider technical, psychological/ behavioural and economically incentivizing solutions. The success of the initiative will be measured in the projected amount of waste and tons of CO2 equivalent prevented by 2030, which directly contribute to the community climate action and waste reduction plans. Besides this, we strive to enhance the quality of life in the Bay area and help to weave environmental awareness into the exponential technology that Silicon Valley develops and spreads across the world.
