Reskilling Youth Entrepreneurs for the Fourth Industrial Revolution Global Shapers Mutare Hub October 2023 Executive Summary

The Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) is transforming the way we live and work. New technologies, such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and the Internet of Things, are creating new opportunities for businesses and individuals alike. However, these technologies are also disrupting existing industries and jobs. Youth entrepreneurs are particularly vulnerable to the disruptions caused by the 4IR. They may lack the skills and experience necessary to compete in the new economy.

This project will address this challenge by providing youth entrepreneurs with the reskilling and education they need to thrive in the 4IR.

The objectives of this project are to:

  • Equip youth entrepreneurs with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the 4IR

  • Help youth entrepreneurs to develop innovative businesses that leverage new technologies

  • Promote entrepreneurship and economic growth in Mutare Project Activities and Initiatives

The following are some activities and initiatives that the Global Shapers Mutare Hub will implement to achieve the project objectives:

  • Conduct a needs assessment to identify the specific skills and knowledge that youth entrepreneurs need to succeed in the 4IR. This will be done through surveys, interviews, and focus groups with youth entrepreneurs, business leaders, and other stakeholders.

  • Develop a reskilling program tailored to the needs of youth entrepreneurs in Mutare. The program will cover a range of topics, such as digital literacy, data analytics, and artificial intelligence. It will also include practical training and mentorship opportunities.

  • Partner with local businesses and educational institutions to deliver the reskilling program. Businesses will provide training and mentorship opportunities, while educational institutions will provide access to resources and facilities.

  • Promote the reskilling program to youth entrepreneurs in Mutare. This will be done through social media, outreach events, and partnerships with youth organizations.

  • Monitor and evaluate the reskilling program to ensure that it is meeting the needs of youth entrepreneurs and achieving its objectives.

The following is a tentative timeline for the project:

Month 1: Conduct needs assessment and develop reskilling program.

Month 2: Partner with local businesses and educational institutions.

Month 3: Promote the reskilling program to youth entrepreneurs.

Month 4-12: Deliver the reskilling program.

Month 13: Monitor and evaluate the reskilling program.

The budget for the project will vary depending on the scope of the activities and initiatives that are implemented. However, some potential sources of funding include: grants from government agencies, foundations, and other organizations, corporate sponsorships, and individual donations.

This project has the potential to make a significant impact on the lives of youth entrepreneurs in Mutare. By providing them with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the 4IR, the project can help them create new businesses, create jobs, and contribute to the economic growth of Mutare. In addition to the activities and initiatives listed above, the Global Shapers Mutare Hub could also consider the following:

  • Create a mentorship program to connect youth entrepreneurs with experienced business leaders. This would provide youth entrepreneurs with access to valuable guidance and support.

  • Develop a business incubator to support youth entrepreneurs in launching and growing their businesses. This could provide them with access to office space, resources, and networking opportunities.

  • Organize events and workshops to educate youth entrepreneurs about the latest trends and technologies in the 4IR.
