Blood4All Cali
Problem Statement
Blood transfusion saves lives and improves health, but many patients requiring transfusion do not have timely access to safe blood. Providing safe and adequate blood should be an integral part of every country’s national health care policy and infrastructure.
Target Group
Young people in Cali who do not currently donate blood but are healthy and able to.
Proposed Solution
Launched in 2017 in the Cali Hub, Blood4All is a cross-hub collaboration of the Global Shapers Community that our hub has adopted as one of its main strategic projects.
Blood4All Cali aims to spark a conversation about the importance of blood donations, increase the amount of blood donors locally, and coordinate community-driven blood donations through multi-stakeholder collaborations in Cali, Colombia.
Hub Activities
Information campaigns and blood drives.
Short & Long-Term Goals/Results
The core goals of Blood4All are to increase awareness around the need for blood donation, to solicit blood donation and to normalize blood donation by:
- Closing the supply gap, domestically and internationally.
- Influencing community behaviors - aka # of pints donated
- Raising Awareness - normalizing blood donation as part of community life.
Available Metrics
During the past two years we have deployed two Blood4All campaigns to collect blood from suitable donors. Thanks to these efforts we have collected:
2017: 11 donations
2020: 10 donations
2021: 10 donations
The blood donation in Cali has not been historically significant, thus, having received these donations and knowing that each of them saves up to three lives, we estimate that we have potentially saved 93 lives.
Collaborators
Inspired by work done by other shapers and other hubs.
