Breakthrough - Economic Justice for Formerly Imprisoned People

Problem statement

Convicted people serving prison terms often lack any sort of support system when completing their sentences. Breakthrough, a Denver-based Colorado nonprofit, works in many ways to develop entrepreneurialism and mentoring networks for formerly incarcerated people to give a brighter future that looks beyond their past.

Proposed solution

Denver Hub is partnering with Breakthrough to re-engage volunteers, develop a broader partner network to assist returned citizens, and improve outreach to prospective volunteers.

Hub activities, results and available metrics

  1. Re-engage volunteers through a partnered event celebrating their service and encouraging continued work to combat recidivism

    1. 150 reinvigorated volunteers attend the event

    2. 1/3 of attendees sign up for a volunteer shift

  2. Develop a broader partner network by facilitating introductions to other groups in the social justice and returned space

    1. 10 targeted partners attend the event to learn more about Breakthrough's work

    2. 5 partners engage fruitfully with Breakthrough to develop shared programming

  3. Improve outreach to prospective volunteers

    1. Develop marketing and outreach channels to improve capabilities for Breakthrough, including an eventbrite, email templates, and photos/videos of engaged volunteers

    2. Expand contact list for event outreach by at least 100 people through plugging Shaper contacts and networks into Breakthrough communications
