Clean Energy 100

The Environment and Sustainability team of the Global Shaper Community, Lagos Hub recently commenced “Clean Energy 100”. This project aims at retailing clean cook-stoves at a subsidized cost to at least 100 vulnerable households (with pregnant women or children under the age of 5) in urban poor communities in Lagos that rely on polluting fuels (kerosene and wood-fuels) for cooking. The execution of this project will thus cause a ripple effect in impacting the lives of millions of women and children and also contribute to a safer, cleaner and more sustainable environment. The proposed project aligns with a number of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which includes Good Health and Well-Being (Goal 3), Affordable and Clean Energy (Goal 7), Responsible Consumption and Production (Goal 12), and Climate Action (Goal 13).

Project Goals:

  • To create awareness of the adverse effect of polluting fuels for domestic cooking, and to discourage deforestation for traditional biomass use.

  • To distribute LPG cook-stoves to the target population aimed at reducing maternal mortality rate.

  • To reduce a portion of 4 million deaths every year as a result of household air pollution.

  • To promote a cleaner and safer environment, thus improving the climate.
