Code Stars

Code Stars taught underprivileged kids coding as an extra skill which supports their primary education they already avail. The goal was to bridge the gap between primary education and technological advancements needed for growth as a professional. This project would help in sowing seeds of interest related to computers and coding which will help in learning and knowledge gaining regarding the subject at world competence level. This helped in giving them new career options, uplift their economic condition and will make them better contributors to the society.

Coding/programming is a skill set for anyone and everyone to possess and to make a living out of it, regardless of any or even basic education. With thorough research and talking to experts in the field in and around Surat, we decided to initiate the course in an all girls government school, in Pandesara, Surat, which in fact, unfortunately also faces a dearth of teaching staff. We shortlisted 12-15 students who were interested and competent to learn the skill. The focus initially is learning the basics of the computer and then starting with a language, which is HTML. We planned to focus on making a curriculum during the pilot run of the project, learning along the way and also taking into account advises given by the experts. This project was headed by me and a supporter of the project Axit Mehta a freelance website developer specialising in HTML and of course supported by the whole team of Surat hub. We believe in the famous saying 'Give a fish to man, he'll be happy for a day. Teach him how to fish, he'll be happy for lifetime’ . We would also like to thank, FOS Parth Gohil (part time #entrepreneur , #techenthusiast , People Operations Manager at Axelerant, Drupal Community Manager) with his extensive research on programming languages for kids helped us in preparing syllabus for this pilot run.
