COVID-19 Information Cascade

The global spread of the COVID-19 virus has been accompanied by a wave of misinformation on how the virus is transmitted and how people can protect against it. Within a context like Kakuma Refugee camp, this misinformation risks contributing to attitudes and behaviors that increase the community’s vulnerability to the pandemic.

This project seeks to combat the spread of COVID-19 misinformation by creating and manage a trusted communication channel that disseminates COVID-19 updates received directly from UNHCR Kakuma to community leaders and residents of the Kakuma camp. This will allow for more camp residents to receive accurate and consistent COVID-19 related updates.

By targeting community leaders who live in less-connected parts of the camp, this project will help bridge the communication gap that currently exists between the UNHCR and Kakuma residents. Community leaders who sign up to receive updates through the channel will also be required to sign a pledge that will serve as a commitment to sharing accurate information with the broader camp community.
