Impact

DECÍDETE MÉXICO Morelia

Problem Statement

Morelia is a strategic location to boost youth political participation due to its large young population and the abundance of universities and research institutions. Coupled with the low 17% participation in the 2018 presidential elections among 18 to 29-year-olds, Morelia is a crucial site for strengthening a robust and equitable democracy.

Target Group

The project targets Morelia's youth aged 18-29, focusing on first-time voters and those previously non-participating, potentially including minorities and low-income groups.

Proposed Solution

Our solution is based on education, targeting first-time voters and those who have not previously participated in elections. We plan to organize workshops led by experts to educate about informed voting, acquaint individuals with the electoral process, their responsibilities as citizens, and the benefits of civic participation, highlighting how this positively impacts our country.

Hub Activities

We will implement a series of three workshops in March, April, and May at universities in Morelia. Our goal is to empower young people with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively cast their first vote, providing essential information for making informed decisions in the 2024 elections.

Short and Long-term Goals

In the short term, we aim to form alliances with universities, secure sponsors, and identify expert facilitators for the workshops. In the long term, our goal is to reach a total of 150 students from three different universities who will be first-time voters.

Available Metrics

Our goal is to have 150 participants in the workshops from three different universities in Morelia. We anticipate that at least 60% of these 150 participants will actively participate in the elections.

Collaborators

We will work in collaboration with universities in Morelia such as UMSNH, UNLA, and UTM, as well as with companies like GEA Ambiental or Cinepolis, and civil organizations, like CEF.
