Impact

Digiterate

Nigeria is home to one of the largest young populations in the world and this young population is faced with issues such as low quality of education and unemployment. In a bid to address these issues, the Lagos Hub initiated the Digiterate project, which is aimed at giving underprivileged teenagers access to technology, formative digital literacy and market-ready skills for employment. Shapers believe this project will greatly improve the examination success rate of the about 200 benefited students, while also helping them gain a better understanding of the requirements of the future of work and ways to navigate digital tools to aid self development.

In order to improve the quality of education and decrease the high unemployment levels in Nigeria, the Lagos Hub is undertaking a project to empower 1,000 secondary school students from underserved communities. The Hub will work in Lagos State to provide students with necessary training and resources to improve their chances of thriving in the modern digital world.

Goals:

  • Equip 1,000 secondary school students within the age of 13 to 17 years old across two (2) secondary schools in Ajegunle, Lagos State on various digital tools they can leverage to aid self-education and development activities.

  • Renovate/set-up the computer labs of 2 schools in an underserved area in Lagos, including providing devices for the schools. Expected Outcomes: - 50% improvement in examination success rate of 1,000 students compared to base results

  • 1000 secondary school students with a better understanding of the requirements of the future of work and ways to navigate digital tools to aid self-development

  • Provide equipment and resources to aid the students in undertaking learning and developmental activities.

  • Leverage the Shapers' network (existing human resource/experienced professionals within and outside the Hub) to provide mentorship for the students.
