Direito na Escola (Law in Schools)

Students in Fortaleza need to learn more about the currency law of their country and  their rights, as a way to improve the wise choice of their representatives and encourage popular participation. 


 


Concerning this problem and the coming elections for mayors and councilmen, in 2019, the Fortaleza HUB visited private and public schools to minister workshops about Constitutional Law and the legal obligations of every elected representative.


 


The project aims to raise political and legal awareness among teenagers of public students from 9th grade of regular education to 3rd grade of high school, from three selected schools.


 


The other objective of the project is to encourage the impacted students to learn more about their rights and duties in society, by learning basic legal knowledge that directly affects their daily life. In order to measure the project's success, the students are given a satisfaction rating, where they may suggest new topics for future workshops and/or express their thoughts about the last one.


 


The project started in October, 2019 and finished in November, 2019. 


 


In terms of short-term results, there was student participation in extracurricular activities and it was possible to establish the first contact of students with topics that are rarely addressed, as constitutional law. 60 students were impacted by the initiative.


 


As a matter of long term change, most respondents of the satisfaction survey understood that the topics addressed were important to their reality.
