Disaster Preparedness

Nearly 20% of the city of Hyderabad comprises of heritage areas and slums with narrow streets 20 feet wide or less, with 1 in 4 residents living in one of these areas. The Hyderabad Hub seeks to use innovative 4IR technologies to build disaster preparedness of parts of the city which are inaccessible to emergency services. This will be done through (i) using GIS maps and machine learning technologies to identify areas inaccessible to emergency services and the relative risk of disaster in each; and (ii) using automated response systems and efficient delivery of supplies via drones among other innovative solutions. This project will be carried out in collaboration with the state Disaster Resilience Agency and Lakeer, a local NGO.
