DiverCine
Problem Statement:
Vulnerable communities need to debate and analyze social issues related to their community in order to empower themselves, stimulating collective engagement in solutions building.
Target Group:
Children and adults from vulnerable communities
Proposed Solution:
DiverCine is a project for cultural inclusion that promotes access to audiovisual and film language for the low-income population of the suburbs of São Luís. Its name, “DiverCine”, refers to the exhibition of films with the theme of diversity and diversion, through the cine-debate methodology (exhibition, debate and construction of solutions to the problem situation). Its central objective is to use audiovisual language to create an environment of dialogue with communities, focused on discussing their reality and needs. Through decentralized exhibitions, it is proposed to democratize access to film culture in the city of São Luís, given that many residents of the periphery have never had the opportunity to attend a movie theater. The project aims to work with diverse audiences in age group, ethnic origin, social and identities. Seeking the sustainability of the action, the films shown in each session will be selected in partnership with community leaders, based on the challenges that affect the daily lives of the residents of each neighborhood, stimulating collective engagement in solutions building.
