#DiversityAsCapital : Empower Youth in Career Development & Community Engagement

Challenge:

Malmö, one of the fastest-growing cities in the Nordics. But also one with growing income inequality where youth from socio-economically weak areas are at the bottom. Growing uncertainty about the future of jobs thanks to digitalization, automation, and global complex problems. All of this can create great fear and difficulty for the youth to plan and navigate their career path. Recently conducted interviews with youth from Malmö, have confirmed this and indicated a disconnection between the youth’s dream jobs and their education efforts.

Objective:

We as Global Shapers believe that to thrive in an uncertain and complex future world, a learning mindset adopted at an early age is key. Since in the city of Malmö, there are neighborhoods in which 50% of the children are living in poverty (Odenbring, Y., 2018), it is important to depict the needs of this group and co-create actions forward with relevant stakeholders (e.g. private companies, NGOs)..
