Don’t whisper. Embracing monthly rhythm.

Problem Statement: Menstruation is a natural and essential part of women's reproductive health, yet it remains a taboo subject in many societies and Kashmir is no exception to it, which leads to misinformation, stigmatization, and inadequate or zero awareness in this age group where this phase starts. This project seeks to empower and improve the overall well-being of adolescent girls in Kashmir by focusing on menstrual health education and gain valid and authentic information about their periods, hygiene, body changes so as to embrace this natural monthly rythm.


Target Group: Adolescent girls. 13-17 age group for awareness and 18-above age group for menstruation educator trainings.


Proposed Solution: This project seeks to empower and improve the overall well-being of adolescent girls in Kashmir by focusing on menstrual health education and gain valid and authentic information about their periods, hygiene, body changes and creating a safe space for period talks.


Implementation Strategies:


  • Baseline assessment: Conduct a thorough needs assessment to understand the existing knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to menstrual health in rural Kashmir.

  • Collaborative partnerships: Forge alliances with local and National NGOs, healthcare providers, government agencies, and community leaders to leverage their expertise, resources, and networks.

  • Educational campaigns and workshops: Organize regular awareness campaigns, workshops, and interactive sessions to empower rural women, dispel myths, and promote positive attitudes towards menstrual health.

  • Establishing distribution networks: Develop sustainable systems for procuring, distributing, and managing affordable menstrual hygiene products in collaboration with accesible manufacturers and suppliers.

  • Waste management and sustainability: Promote proper waste management practices, raise awareness about the environmental impact of disposable menstrual products, and support initiatives for producing and promoting eco-friendly alternatives.

  • Monitoring, evaluation, and knowledge sharing: Regularly monitor and evaluate the project's progress, impact, and challenges faced. Share lessons learned and best practices with stakeholders, policymakers, and organizations working in similar contexts.


Short Term Goal : Comprehensive Workshops in Urban schools targeting 500 adolescent girls in 3 months.


Mid Term Goal: Train Young Girls to conduct these workshops across Kashmir districts for capacity building and by the end 2023, the hub plans to target 5k adolescent girls with the project's educational workshops both in rural and urban schools.


Long Term Goal: By 2030, have menstruation educators in all 11 districts of Kashmir, and reach 50k students for the awareness.


Expected Outcomes:


  • Increased awareness and knowledge about menstrual health and hygiene among adolescents in Kashmir.

  • Reduced stigma and improved attitudes towards menstruation within communities.

  • Adoption of environmentally friendly menstrual practices and waste management systems.

  • Strengthened community engagement and ownership of menstrual health initiatives.

  • Enhanced overall well-being, dignity, and empowerment of rural women in Kashmir
