Each one Guide one

Problem Statement: A large proportion of our life is spent in achieving our career goals, thus it is very important to realize the career goals and right steps are being taken and correct planning is required to be done in the early years of life. While India's working-age population will cross one billion by 2050, currently 93% Indian students are aware of just seven career options, which is going to create immense pressure on the system. Students in the age group of 10-18 years in India need to plan their career in order to have a content and satisfied life by making appropriate career choices.

Target Group: Students in the age group of 10-18 years in India, starting from Varanasi.

Proposed Solution: The hub is developing a model to provide proper career guidance to young students, by utilizing experts from various walks of life in order to create a comprehensive and robust intervention. A person or a group of people belonging to a particular profession or career will be guiding/mentoring young children by sharing a proper roadmap for different career paths and their valuable experience, which is often not available to disadvantaged children. Since the same system could be used in all parts of India with little modification required, the project team is looking to collaborate with other hubs on this initiative in the future.

The project will focus on creating communication channels for community leaders from various career paths who will provide:

  1. Career orientation to explore multiple career options

  2. Assessment/interventions to recognise interests and passions

  3. Support, motivate, inspire

  4. Create a roadmap by describing education background and skill sets required for a particular job

Hub Activities: Hub Activities will involve but not limited to:

Demand Side (students):

  1. Creating engaging content/campaign to attract interest from young students

  2. Create various communication channels to collate students into groups

  3. Organize workshops in schools to capture interest of students

Supply side (guide/mentors):

  1. To start off with, Global Shapers of Varanasi Hub, and if required taking help of other hubs in India/abroad accordingly

  2. To use the personal networks of hub members, college networks, alumni networks to get mentors to join this initiative

Short & Long-Term Goals/Results:

Short Term Goals: To create awareness of the need, by capturing interests and proving students with highly relevant content to keep their interest alive

Long term goals: To create this into a pan-India or global mission where successful people, industry experts, university professors come and share their knowledge and career guidance for their respetive fields for students who will then be able to make active informed career decisions.

Available Metrics:

In the trial run of a week, the hub has been able to capture the interest of 15 children, with visibility of 100s of parents and young kids.

The hub hope to increase this number to at least 500 in the coming year.

Collaborators:

None as of now but we might be required to collaborate with:

  1. Schools

  2. Not for profits organization
