El Futuro de la Salud Mental

In the past few years, young people are suffering more from mental health issues. Some figures on the problem:

    1. According to the latest INE statistics, since 2019 suicide is the leading cause of unnatural death in the 15-29 age group, even higher than traffic accidents.

    2. According to a study carried out by the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital in Espluges de Llobregat (Barcelona), more and more adolescents are attempting suicide, raising the figures to 27% in 2021.

    3. Since 2000, the World Health Organization (WHO), contrary to what was previously recommended to avoid the 'contagion effect', has been committed to talking about suicide from the point of view of prevention. "If we do not talk about suicide, it is very difficult to prevent it. We have to talk about suicide, but with respect and responsibility", says de Quesada.

    4. Unicef warns that suicide is already the fifth leading cause of death in children and adolescents in the world.

    5. One out of every seven adolescents in the world has a diagnosed mental health problem; almost 46,000 commit suicide every year, but only 2% of government health budgets in the world are allocated to them.
