Impact

END Neglected Tropical Diseases

The Neglected Tropical Diseases Project is an initiative of the Global Shapers Harare Hub. It falls under the Global Shapers Community’s Equity and Inclusion Impact Area. Work on the project has been on-going since 2016 and the current phase of implementation ends in July 2021. 5.74 million Zimbabweans, 2.3 million of which are children of school-going age, require treatment and information on Neglected Tropical Diseases yet NTDs remain at the periphery of the Public Health agenda. The Global Shapers Harare Hub has been working on a project to:

1. Bridge the gap in knowledge on NTDs among school going children to continuous education on preventions and treatment options

2. Promote Water Sanitation and Hygiene practices in primary and secondary schools as a preventive measure for NTDs

3. Conduct online webinar series with policy, research and ministry of health personel to demystify NTDs and promote Mass Drug Adminstration to the public.

To date, we have trained over 6000 students, conducted 18 webinars reaching over 15000 people and took part in Water Sanitation and Hygiene projects at 4 Schools. As the projects approaches closure in July 2021, there is possibility of starting a new cycle with a tech integration to allow for even wider reach and cross hub collaboration.
