Erbil Cancer Support Center Initiative

Inspired by the story of a former shaper’s mom, the hub continues to run the Hub’s first project of Hawler Cancer Support Center in a cancer hospital. Established in 2016, the initiative is aimed at providing psychosocial support for children and adult cancer patients during their chemotherapy sessions. So far, the project has benefitted around 1000 patients. One of the outputs from the project was the formation of a library in the Cancer hospital from donated books for patients who wanted to read. Financial donations have been raised for less privileged cancer patients. During a large Fundraising campaign on World Cancer Day, the amount of $ 20,000 was raised from sales of patients’ paintings, which went into cancer hospital’s and patients’ needs.  Shapers conduct regular entertainment sessions such as story-reading, music, and painting for the child patients. Erbil Hub also partnered with a local organization to conduct seminars on different topics like anger management and side effects of chemotherapy for both doctors and patients. The hub has also partnered with a local company to raise funds for children’s schooling, books, medicine, and psychosocial support.
