Impact

eSlums

Pune has a population of over 4 million people, 1.6 million (40%) of which live in slums, with lack of access to basic infrastructure and rights, which is exacerbated by unplanned growth, lack of awareness, and limited avenues of collaboration for community-based solutions. The Pune Hub’s eSlums intervention addresses the last mile access to governance mechanisms for improved lives in the most marginalized communities of the city. The project will (i) conduct accessibility mapping of available public infrastructure in a slum using open source technology and (ii) train locals with simple tools to monitor new infrastructure works. This will empower the community in a slum of their rights and actively participate in governance processes of city through set mechanism such as Participatory Budgeting.
