Feed the Kids

The Reynosa Hub found out that orphanages in Reynosa are having issues collecting enough food due to lack of aid from government and donors. Children had a restricted number of meals due to the size of population. Global Shapers Reynosa created a synergy with local farm markets and orphanages, so all food that wasn't sold by farm markets during the week would be donated to the orphanages. With this, children would have enough good quality food during the whole week, improving their nutrition and energy levels for correct growth and efficient performance throughout the day.

The goal was to maximize the available resources in the community to feed the children in need with less resources. With this, the project has made progress toward two SDGs: #2 (zero hunger) and #12 (responsible consumption and production). Global Shapers Reynosa created a collaboration between Reynosa Farmers Market Association and Salvation Army Orphanage, to assure the delivery of meals for 54 kids on a daily basis. Meals were comprised of good quality food such as fresh fruits and vegetables, poultry and eggs. The idea was to create a group of sponsors that donate food on a weekly basis to the children most in need.
