FEED THE NEED: ADDRESSING FOOD WASTE AND HUNGER IN DELHI

The amount of food that gets leftover and usually wasted at events is very high. In India, we estimate that 110,900 tonnes of food which is equivalent to around 554,700,000 meals gets wasted at weddings alone. Such a large quantity can feed over 1 million people all year round.

Feed the Need (http://xprs.imcreator.com/free/krits/feed-the-need) is a project that will focus on reducing this food wastage and feeding the homeless/needy population in Delhi. We plan to partner with big catering companies & NGOs that can utilise the food the catering companies provide. We are informed when a certain level of wastage is anticipated. Our temperature controlled vehicles arrive at the venue with a certified nutritionist on board to ascertain food quality and survival during transport. Only approved foods are then taken to the appropriate NGO, which has been informed beforehand and is prepared for our arrival. The food is distributed by local volunteers and supervised by NGO staff.

Please contact us if you know of catering companies or NGOs in Delhi that might be interested in partnering with us for this initiative. You can contact our hub curator at urvashi@cantab.net
