Problem Statement

The Quebec City Hub (https://www.globalshapers.org/hubs/quebec-city-hub) has supported marginalized populations in its region by taking three concrete actions in order to support local causes that are combatting homelessness, poverty and social exclusion.

Target Group

Marginalized citizens facing homelessness, poverty and social exclusion.

Proposed Solution

The project's mission was accomplished by completing the following three actions between 1 November 2020 and 31 December 2020 :

1. Provide food aide for target group.

2. Provide material support via local organizations that are assisting target group.

3. Provide financial support via local causes that are assisting target group.

Hub Activities

The three aforementioned actions have been completed by the Quebec City Hub before the December deadline. Members of the Hub have made resource-based or time-based contributions as individuals and small groups, which cumulatively has assisted local causes in aiding the target group.

Short & Long-Term Goals/Results

The main goal of this project is to provide immediate relief to members of our community that are facing homelessness, poverty, and social exclusion. The impact that our project will have will be in the short term to assist these members of the community as we move into the holiday season.

The secondary goal of this project will be to network with existing aide organizations throughout our region. As a new organization within our community, we hope to be able to engage in discussion with existing organizations. These discussions will help us to identify the gaps in our community that require support so that we can align future projects in the right direction as our Hub approaches maturity.

The Quebec City Hub has completed 20 cumulative outreach activities within the scope of the project between 1 November 2020 and 31 December 2020.

The possibility to upscale the project within the community exists by encouraging a "Pay it Forward" type of approach by challenging community members outside the Hub to complete 20 activities themselves. This could be accomplished via social media through a subject-relevant hashtag (#FeedTheSpiritChallenge), or as a seasonally-relevant challenge (#20DaysOfChristmas).

Available Metrics

Success will be based on number of outreach activities completed cumulatively by the Hub. A minimum of 20 activities must be completed to reach the project's end-state.
