Finan

In Chitungwiza and particularly in Zimbabwe at large, many students face challenges on how to manage their finances. The use of drugs among students has increased by 15% particulary in Chitungwiza. This project aims to target high school students in Chitungwiza to educate them on financial literacy. As a hub, we shall have the a once a week sessions with high school students at their schools such as Zengeza High 1, Seke 1 High School, Seke 6 and St Mary’s high school.

Our goals are as follows:

  • Learning to create and follow a budget.

  • Understanding the basics of credit and debt.

  • Recognizing the benefits of saving and investing.

  • Developing a plan for post-secondary education or career training.

  • Understanding the importance of financial products.

In the long term, students may be able to:

  • Make informed decisions about major financial decisions, such as buying a car or home.

  • Plan for other long-term goals.

  • Establish good credit and manage debt responsibly.

Financial literacy is an essential life skill that all high school students should be taught. A comprehensive financial literacy curriculum for high school students should cover the basics of earning, spending, budgeting, saving, and investing money. In addition, students should learn about the importance of protecting themselves from financial scams and frauds, and the different ways to plan for their future financial responsibilities, such as paying for college or buying a car. Such a curriculum would not only provide students with valuable financial knowledge, but would also help them develop the skills they need to make sound financial decisions in the future. For example, by learning about budgeting, students would be able to create a realistic plan for spending and saving their money. By learning about investing, they would understand the importance of planning for their long-term financial goals, such as retirement. And by learning about the risks of scams and frauds, they would be able to spot potential red flags and protect themselves from financial harm. We have not included any collaborators as of now.
