Fuori dagli schermi / 'Off the Screens' – Second edition

The 'Off the Screens' project aims to shift offline a series of discussions on current topics that we believe are particularly relevant and impactful within our community. In an era marked by simplification and polarization, where social networks dominate discussions, the primary goal of the project is to bring the conversation back to physical interactions. This shift is crucial to constructing a more effective dialogue and a deeper understanding of the issues that matter to us. The second objective is to create an informal and sometimes convivial context to foster debate, not only among invited experts addressing selected topics but also among participants. This provides an opportunity for questions, opinions, supporting data, and expanding the discussion to personal experiences.

The second edition of the project unfolded in 5 meetings from April to November 2023, each focusing on a different current topic.

The events took place in pubs and local association venues, bringing together a total of 18 experts and over 300 participants. Included Events: 19.04.2023 - Ma amore di casa non ne tieni? This event advocated for the 'south working' perspective as a means of reconnecting to one's roots, promoting sustainable territorial development, and addressing rural depopulation. Local representatives embracing remote working and figures from the Municipality of Bari, the Puglia Region, and Confindustria played pivotal roles in advocating for this perspective, drawing attention to the need for suitable infrastructure. 11.05.2023 – T’IA ‘mbarà e t’IA perd A session to demystify Artificial Intelligence and explore its impact on daily lives. Two experts and a learning psychologist delivered clear explanations for the general public. 19.09.2023 – Processo al film “Oppenheimer”: la verità sul contributo di Enrico Fermi A retrospective on recent history, leveraging the enthusiasm generated by Christopher Nolan's blockbuster. The debate delved into Fermi's role in discovering nuclear energy, exploring its potential, and discussing the implications of deploying weapons of mass destruction. A film producer contributed insights into script decisions that altered the narrative focus. 15.11.2023 – Capire il conflitto israelo-palestinese An insightful exploration of the historical complexities and contradictions of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, particularly in light of the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack and the Israeli military response. University professors provided essential perspectives on the motivations and actions of the involved parties, offering insights into the global dynamics at play. 30.11.2023 – E le terrise addò stonne? A meeting to understand the importance of financial education and provide insights for its implementation, at a time when data on financial literacy in Italy highlight the need to disseminate to as many people as possible how the economic mechanisms regulating our society work. The meeting benefited from the participation of teachers, researchers, and a journalist from Will Media who, for several years, has been contributing to spreading best practices in managing personal savings. Goals and Impact The meetings took place in spacious locations to allow widespread participation, promoting posters on social media and through word of mouth in the social networks of the Shapers of the Bari hub. Whenever possible, the decision was made to broadcast the ongoing debate live, ensuring that even those unable to attend could capture insights and form an understanding of the topics discussed. Each event lasted approximately 2 hours, with phases including topic presentation, expert interventions, and a concluding Q&A, often evolving into an open debate within the audience as well as with the speakers. The project has represented a significant step in revitalizing civic discourse, bringing together various age groups and different segments of the population to address topics concerning the world we live in.
