Gimmie Your Stimmie

Problem & Solution

In order to counteract extreme poverty and economic downturns caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the US government has issued several rounds of stimulus payments to Americans. For many, these are necessary for survival, but for many others, who had the benefit of staying fully employed during the pandemic, they may be unnecessary. To make giving back easier, the Philadelphia Hub has launched Gimmie Your Stimmie, a donation matching program that allows for individuals to double their donation impact. When someone donates to a qualifying organization, they are able to submit a receipt of their donation on the project website, and then the Shapers hub can either match their donation with internally raised funds, or volunteer at a participating organization with a 1 hour match for every $100 raised. Metrics of success for this project will be tied to fundraising and volunteering at local organizations.

Goals

  • Fundraise for local food security organizations, by accepting donations from individuals who were fully employed but still received a stimulus payment.

  • Matching donations via hub member donations and with a volunteer match of 1 volunteer hour per $100.
