Girls First Initiative

Problem

Girls First Initiative (GFI) is a Non-governmental Organization in Tanzania focused on championing and amplifying the voices of girls and young women in all life aspects, focusing on the ones at risk of sexual harassment.

Solution

The organization seeks to ensure the basic human rights of girls. GFI advocate, promote and defend girls' right to health, education, and economic growth which are the root causes that increase the girl’s vulnerability, especially to sexual harassment.

Goal

To promote economic and personal empowerment through entrepreneurship and life skills, facilitating their employability and advocating for their rights.

Target & Activities

We have successfully trained 134 girls on both entrepreneurship and employability skills, mentored 30 girls while securing 20 internships and provided seed funds to five girls from our programs. Our goal is to train 2000 young in entrepreneurship skills in the next few years and provide loans to more than 500 young women to start their businesses while providing the best-customized entrepreneurship curriculum for schools in Tanzania.

Impact

To train 1000 female graduates each year on employability skills to make them become more competent and competitive in the job market, as a way to ensure young women have equal powers and opportunities to make and act on economic decisions and share in economic benefits.
