Global Newcomer Integration Platform

Problem Statement

The lack of a centralized, accessible, and multilingual resource platform for Ottawa's rapidly growing immigrant population presents a significant barrier to their effective integration and community involvement.

Target Group

The initiative primarily supports the diverse immigrant population in Ottawa, which includes nearly 260,000 immigrants and 30,000 non-permanent residents, encompassing communities of West Indian, African, Chinese, Middle Eastern, and European origins, among others.

Proposed Solution

Our hub proposes to develop a dynamic web platform that offers comprehensive, multilingual resources and community engagement tools to aid newcomers in navigating their new city with ease, emphasizing inclusivity, accessibility, and user-friendliness.

Hub Activities

Creating and curating multilingual content for the website, including guides and maps. Organizing virtual and in-person town hall meetings and Q&A sessions to address the needs of immigrants/newcomers. Developing interactive features such as a service marketplace and community forums. Collaborating with local organizations and immigrant communities for content development and dissemination.

Short and Long-Term Goals

Short-term: Launch a functional, multilingual prototype of the platform with essential resources for newcomers in Ottawa.

Long-term: Expand the platform's features, languages offered, and reach to include other Canadian cities and eventually scale globally, becoming a comprehensive tool for immigrant integration worldwide.

Available Metrics

  • User engagement statistics, such as website visits, resource downloads, and active townhall participation.

  • Number of community events held and participant turnout.

  • Feedback and testimonials from users on the platform's impact on their integration process.

  • Growth in the number of languages and resources offered on the platform.
