Prevention against Lausanne nightlife agressions

Problem Statement : In the past years, we have been hearing about drug aggressions during night and evening events in Lausanne. Those attacks have been reported for a long time and it seems like their frequency is increasing. Although, the struggle in detecting those drugs and the difficulty in reporting the attacks makes it hard to build statistics and organize an effective response.

Target Area : The project focuses in particular on the sample of population going from 15ys to 30ys old, i.e. the people living the Lausanne nightlife and participating in evening events in the area around Lausanne.

Proposed Solution : Create platforms to produce statistics and raise awareness around the cases of drug aggression in the Lausanne nightlife. Parallelly, our group wants to take action to support and provide first aid to the victims of those aggressions.

Hub Activities : The name of the action our group will focus on is called the “Safe Person” system. The aim is to provide a safe environment for listening in case of gender-based violence or drug aggression and to help improve the feelings of safety and confidence at clubs and events.

For this, different solution will be studied and implemented, for example: The possibility of testing glasses to avoid GHB aggressions at nightclubs | Half a day training on how to best help people being drugged or in need of assistance | Different shifts of people (“Safe Persons”) that can provide help on the spot during events.

Short & Long-Term Goals/Results : With this project, we hope to establish a system of protection to lower cases of aggression by drugs in the Lausanne nightlife, thus improving the quality of life of the population living in the area. This project will be implemented with the idea that the same model could be reproduced by other Hubs outside Lausanne.

Available Metrics: So far, the team of 7 Global Shapers working on this project has completed the phase of project initiation and has entered the phase of project planning. In the future, we hope to apply our actions to a number of events in Lausanne for a trial time of at least 4 months, collecting feedback from hundreds of students and young adults.
