Ilorin Climate Action / Iyipada Oju ojo Ilorin

To accelerate global climate action, Ilorin Global Shapers initiated a campaign to help build resilience in Ilorin and scale climate action in 2022. The 8-point cost-effective action plan strategies include:

  • natural flood management

  • tree planting

  • separating rainwater from sewer water

  • bridging the digital divide in learning

  • creating and improving on flood warning mechanisms

  • constructing and maintaining good roads and drainage systems

  • creating awareness and having an emergency plan and flood plain zoning.

Some key activities planned are Whitepaper Stakeholders' Roundtable, community outreaches, capacity building workshops, public awareness session, clean ups, tree planting and grassroot activations among others.

Goals

The Ilorin Hub have successfully United Climate and Environmental Stakeholders to resolve in implementing actionable plans to address climate challenges in Ilorin Communities through its first Whitepaper Stakeholders' Roundtable. An action challenge was created out of this long-term strategic campaign. The Ilorin Hub via the challenge has successfully awarded a $300 micro-grant each to support two (2) different climate solutions in Sabo-Oke and Alanamu communities in Ilorin East and West respectively which were identified as very high flood risk areas according to our flood risk analysis by Geohazard Risk Mapping Initiative. The impact so far has been impressive with over 1,000 people reached and over 200 kg of plastic waste recovered from the environment.
