Job Perspectives

PROBLEM STATEMENT:

Pupils from middle schools in their final year(s) of school are lacking support in finding the right occupation which fulfills both their skills, passion, and financial needs. This lack of support is often due to a lack of “role models” which the pupils can identify with.

TARGET GROUP:

Pupils aged 14 to 18 with a difficult background who are in their final year(s) of school

PROPOSED SOLUTION:

Our goal is to support pupils, especially those with a difficult background, in their final year(s) of school in their choice of occupation by providing them with first-hand insights, experience and know-how about the career path of young professionals aged 25-35 with a similar background so there is a strong identification between the two groups.

HUB ACTIVITIES:

Our first pilot was organised with the “Schlauschule”, a middle school specifically for refugees. We planned a school visit with two women aged 25-30 with a migration background who would tell their individual story and career path to the pupils, followed by a Q&A session. Afterwards a workshop on “Design Thinking” was planned to bring the pupils towards technical and entrepreneurial thinking.

Due to the nature of the conversation type and workshop, we decided to wait until a physical school visit is possible again - hopefully in summer 2021. After a successful pilot, we plan to implement this format for each final-year class at Schlauschule and also plan to extend the format to other middle schools in Munich, Germany and beyond.
