Juntos Por La Infancia

This project is working hard to improve the life experience of more than 40 children and young adults who have experienced abuse, neglect, violence, abandonment, and/or are in need of supervised care. In Chile, Semane is the public institution that must protect the rights of the child and youth. That organization is responsible for giving youth new opportunities to be part of society and have an education, health, food as well as their basic needs met. But the problem is too big for the system, so there are different NGOs that take care of kids, and the Santiago Hub is working with one such NGO. This project aims to tackle social skills and leadership gaps to prepare youth for an uncertain future. The program aims to develop self-esteem and allow youth to experience trusting relationships with peers and adults in order for them to be agents of change. The project will accomplish this aim through local activities focusing on workshops and outdoors experiences.

This project aims for every child living within the Santiago Hub's residential care to be enabled with the skills to take action as well as empowered to design a more desirable and sustainable future for themselves and their friends. The Hub's first goal is to conduct 4 workshops and 4 outdoor experiences before July 2020. On August 2020, the Hub expects to have a group of 5 leaders who can represent the rest of the kids in monthly meetings with the director of the residential care. At these meetings, youth will have the opportunity to express their needs and some solutions as they look to improve their lives, relationships, houses, residential environment and others topics that they think are important to take care of in order to have a decent life.
