Justice Education in the Hague

Problem Statement

Due to a lack of common understanding/ knowledge about justice issues faced by people in The Hague, certain marginalized communities are unable to access appropriate justice services available to them. Thus, while there is research to show what are the biggest justice challenges in the Hague, there is a lack of common understanding about what are the biggest challenges, and the stories behind the people facing justice issues. Considering the upcoming global recession, the socio-economic justice issues need to be highlighted.

Here, justice issues implies that fair solutions are needed, and the pursuit of fairness and prevention of these issues in daily lives.

Common issues in The Hague:

  • Neighbour issues (nuisance, landlord tenant conflicts)

  • People with debts

  • Housing issues

Target Group:

Vulnerable residents of The Hague who are dealing with one or more of the above issues, and are looking for ways to solve their problems. These are people who are lacking access and awareness of fair solutions. In this context, vulnerable residents include: migrants (expats), people from ethnic minorities, people with low-income, young people; who are unfamiliar with the Dutch justice ecosystem, and the services available to them

Proposed Solution:

If people are aware of the different existing justice systems and have spoken to an expert representing these systems, they are more likely to approach them directly or encourage others to approach the appropriate structures/services. Thus, the Hague hub will gather and share stories of people facing justice issues and how they are tackling them, and organise lectures/seminars with practitioners of justice systems.

The stories of people facing justice issues will help to increase awareness and knowledge about the different ways they are tackling them and the different avenues available to the residents of the Hague.

Identifying practitioners and experts of the justice systems in the Hague, to understand the issue from their perspective, and engaging with them to organize seminars/lectures and find ways to be most effective with the events

Hub Activities:

1. Based on existing research, gather stories of justice issues faced by different types of vulnerable residents in the Hague.

2. Organize a series of seminars for our target audience, where we invite practitioners to elaborate on available solutions/services
