Impact

Keep up with shapers

Problem Statement

The project was created for the younger generation who wanted to learn basic skills in different languages but never had the opportunity due to various factors. In Ecuador, the percentage of young people who know a second language is quite low. This is generally true across Latin America due to various variables, such as accessibility to education, geographical location, and educational policies.

Target Group

Young people interested in learning basic skills in different languages

Proposed Solution

The "Keep up with Shapers" project aims to create a space where the Guayaquil and global community can participate in free sessions with professional or native speakers who are proficient in different languages.

Short and Long Term Goals

  • Creating conversation spaces for the Guayaquil and worldwide community.

  • Generating visibility for Global Shapers in their commitment to fulfilling the Sustainable Development Goals.

  • Generating interest in the importance of learning new languages.

Available Metrics

We have 6 active Shapers in the Keep Up with Shapers project. So far, we have had 3 sessions. The first session was in German, the second one was in Portuguese, and the third one in French.

So far, 42 persons have benefitted from these sessions, including 28 non Global Shapers. We continue to recruit Shapers who want to help us, and we are also reaching out to potentially interested individuals through Top Link.

We provide a friendly and safe environment where participants can practice the language and enhance their language skills.

Project Collaborators

We have created a spreadsheet where Shapers from different Hubs can sign up in our project. Up to now, we have collaborated with a Shaper from the Recife Hub in the Portuguese session. In the near future, we hope to have more collaborations with Shapers from Alexandria, Okinawa, and Bucharest Hub.
