Locally Determined Contribution (LDC)

The LDC Project was about working on a local version of the Tunisian NDC (Nationally Determined Contributions), with the collaboration of Tunis city key actors. The development of the LDC framework equipped the municipality of Tunis with tools and mental models to align their daily work with national objectives and international targets.

The adoption of the LDC will allow the commune of Tunis to:

  • Propose a vision of socio-ecological transformation to achieve the national objectives in terms of carbon neutrality and resilience to climate change by 2050.

  • Contribute to the coherence of climate policies at the local and national levels by adopting a bottom-up approach that is fully aligned with the principles of the Paris Agreement.

  • Create local synergies to help emerge green projects in each neighbourhood through coordination with the various stakeholders, namely the public sector, the private sector, civil society, the media and of course the citizen. In terms of metrics, we report: Number & Diversity of stakeholders met: One metric of success is the diversity of opinions incorporated in the framework. We have successfully met with around 20 stakeholders across the public and private sectors as well as civil society.

Framework development: The framework is co-designed with local stakeholders and reflects the local reality of the municipality of Tunis

Framework vulgarization and incorporation in municipal plans: The framework was presented to 50 different stakeholders during an urban talk on the 12th of April and the municipality started aligning its plans to it.
