Mental Health Matters - Building Better Men

The Port of Spain Hub recognized the need to bridge the academic dialogue with the subjective conversation, and the gap in identifying the range of mental health professionals as well as the awareness of the diverse potential treatments available locally in Trinidad, beyond the traditionally understood methods of "talk therapy" and medication.

In 2016, the Port of Spain Hub launched "Mental Health Matters" (MHM), an ongoing series set within the Caribbean context with the mission of reducing the stigma of mental illness to improve patient's quality of life through increased access to knowledge and care.

Between 2016 and 2018, three (3) sessions with expert panellist and the public were conducted. They were:

1. MHM: Understanding and working with Depression

2. MHM: Disaster Resilience- The Mental Health Dimension. A topic sadly inspired by the devastating weather events that shook the Caribbean during the 2017 Hurricane Season.

3. MHM: Building Better Men. The Hub also collaborated with The 2 Cents Movement to conduct sessions with form 1 male students (ages 12-15) of the Grand Riviere School, Trinidad.
