Mental Health Outreach for Building Disaster Victims

On the 13th of March 2019, a 4 storey building collapsed at Ita Faji Community, Lagos Island killing and trapping people in its fall. This building contained a nursery and primary school and a residential apartment among others. The Lagos Hub of the Global Shapers Community, in collaboration with Mentally Aware Nigeria (MANI) & Anti-Suicide and Depression Squad (ASADS) an offshoot of Executives Initiative held an outreach event for the victims and bereaved of the Ita Faji building collapse on Saturday the 23rd of March 2019 at Onola Community Hall, Lagos Island. This outreach combined physical, psychological and welfare provisions to the victims and mental health practitioners were on the ground to counsel members of the community.


Goals:


  1. Provide grief counselling sessions for the bereaved and injured.

  2. Commence follow up sessions for victims.

  3. Donate relief items for displaced individuals.
