Misfits - Empowering Social Entrepreneurship

Problem: Early-stage social entrepreneurs, especially in the tier 2 and 3 cities in India, do not have the support, guidance, mentorship and opportunity to get funded. Thus, these startups often have a lesser probability of achieving success.

Project's target group: Social entrepreneurship ecosystem's stakeholders viz startups, incubators, accelerators, impact funds, mentors, coworking spaces, govt startup bodies and corporates. The region of target is South Asia and South East Asia.

Project's proposed solution: The project bridges the gap and solves the problem by bringing together different startup ecosystem stakeholders into a unified community so that they can help the startups grow. To bring them together, the hub is organizing a pitching competition to invite the stakeholders together and in turn, provide the benefits from stakeholders to the participating startups.

Hub activities: The hub is acting as a partner/organizer of the whole event and building the community. To do so, hub members are actively reaching out to stakeholders across Asia, to discuss the mission and bring in the benefits they can provide.

Short term goals:

  • Engage with 5 local institutions to host social entrepreneurship sessions.

  • Build partnerships with atleast 10 local organizations for outreach and support.

  • Mentor 5 social entrepreneurs in the next year.

Long Term Change:

  • Create a network of like-minded individuals.

  • Set up an Incubation / Acceleration Program (partly realized under CTF Accelerator Project)

Impact metrics:

  • Number of startups participating in the pitching competition.

  • Number of partnerships formed between startups and stakeholders.

  • Number of social entrepreneurs mentored
