Mobility 360º

Problem Statement

Cycling is the most sustainable mode of transportation for short and medium-distance trips in urban cities. Cycling leads to a longer and healthier life and it is relaxing, convenient, and economical.

Target Group

Citizens of Porto Alegre

Proposed Solution

Mobility 360º uses Virtual Reality to promote empathy on traffic-related issues.

The project explores the shared dream of healthy and empathetic urban mobility for the city of Porto Alegre, Brazil. Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3), Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11) and Climate action (SDG 13) are the main Sustainable Development Goals we explored in our project.

Hub Activities

The Porto Alegre Hub decided to launch the project mobility 360º and produce immersive Virtual Reality (VR) experiences to explore the sensation of freedom of a bike ride through upbeat multisensory experiences across the city's landscapes. By researching the feelings and dreams of a diverse group of citizens, we were able to build on top of their common goal: creating a virtual world where riding your bicycle is a healthy, safe and joyful experience that also improves our overall sense of community towards a more sustainable world.

Our first VR experience was presented to multiple local stakeholders (e.g: local TV, news outlets, social media, representatives from the town hall, and from governmental institutions for traffic management & safety) as well as exhibited at the 2nd World Youth Assembly for Road Safety, in Stockholm, Sweden.

Our second VR experience, Domingo, was selected to be a part of the MY World 360º Campaign and premiered at the SDG Action Zone in 2021. Both VR experiences are now a part of the many life-saving workshops conducted by the renowned non-profit Thiago Gonzaga Foundation, awarded throughout Latin America for raising consciousness on traffic safety.
