Like other major towns in Africa, waste management is proving a menace to societies, with food waste and plastics making up the largest chunk of the litter. We are inspired by the P in the ISHAPE acronym to protect the planet by promoting biodiversity. The objective of our 2023/2024 project is to distribute low-cost waste containers of two colors – black and red – to allow waste sorting into two categories I.e., biodegradables and non-biodegradables. The goal is to reduce the amount of waste that ends up in the environment and dumpsites by promoting recycling of waste at household level. Through this initiative, we are aiming to grow at least 100 trees every month until May 2024.

Goals for the project:

  1. Distribute 500 low-cost and colour-coded waste containers

  2. Plant at least 600 fast growing fruit trees by May 2023

  3. Teach at least 30 school going children on waste recycling for manure

  4. Teach at least 30 school going children on tree planting and maintenance for fruit trees

  5. Start a mini-carbon credit project
