MY WASTE

Currently, in Cabo Verde there is no system to manage day to day waste that can be recycled! Much of our waste ends up in landfills to be burnt, and much of it spreads and flies away to our oceans and beaches. It is not uncommon to see plastic bags stuck on trees or plastic bottles rolling on the ground.

Being a small island nation we don't have an elevated carbon footprint or contribute to global pollution in a significant manner, however it is essential for us to begin to pave the way for future generations to learn to respect the environment, and understand the significance of preserving it. It is imperative for the survival of future generations that we lead by example.

This project plans to create workshops that will teach and inform our citizens especially youth the importance of waste management and recycling methods. In addition, we plan to create a network to connect individuals who already recycle by reusing waste to make furniture, art, and other innovative products through a digital platform, which will allow them to exchange recyclable waste which will in turn incentivize the creation of recycling flows, and a community and coalition. Hopefully aspiring a change in our national policy.
