Problem Statement

According to the United Nations Development Programme Tanzania has one of the highest youth unemployment rates in the world with nearly 13% of young people aged 15-24 years unemployed. In Dar es Salaam the problem is even more pronounced, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics youth unemployment in Dar es Salaam stood at 18.4% in 2020 with young women being disproportionately affected. In addition, the Tanzania Private Sector Foundation has reported that only 22% of employers in Tanzania believe young people are adequately prepared for the job market highlighting the importance of professional development opportunities in improving youth employability. To address this problem a coordinated effort is needed to overcome resource constraints and socio-cultural barriers as well as to improve communication and coordination among stakeholders to ensure youth in Dar es Salaam have access to the resources and opportunities they need to succeed in the job market or entrepreneurship world.
