Parliamentary Charity Basketball Tournament

Ottawa Hub are helping underprivileged kids in Ottawa to play sports and have access to physical activities through fundraising for Christie Lake Kids, which is a local charity. They are also bringing together Members of Parliament and staff from the three major political parties, as well as members of the Parliamentary Press Gallery, to play a basketball tournament for a common good cause. For instance, the tournament will involve a launch event hosted by the Speaker of the House of Commons for the first time. This project will fulfil several unique and important values: it is frontline work, it is multi-partisan, it involves sports and play, and it benefits youth from a lower socio-economic class. The tournament has also been focused on gender parity from day one, each team has to set aside at least three spots in their roster for female players, and one female player needs to be on the court at all times.
